Certified Acupressurist
As a professional massage therapist and acupressurist since 2006, the focus of my practice is to release the restrictions that limit your mobility and your life. Left untreated, these restrictions can lead to serious dysfunction and even illness.
Whether you have muscle strain, pinched nerves, arthritis, or chronic pain, my goal is to listen to the needs of your body, respond gently, and restore well-being.
I draw upon a variety of therapeutic modalities to create a unique, eclectic style of healing massage.
THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES
ACUPRESSURE
In this 5,000-year-old Asian healing art, acupressure points represent junctures in the life energy pathway of the body. These points are gently pressed to release the body’s natural self-curative endorphins. Acupressure strengthens the immune system, relieving pain and stress while creating deep physical and mental relaxation.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
This soft-touch approach promotes
central nervous system functioning.
It releases tension in the craniosacral system, which consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding and protecting the brain and spinal cord.
SWEDISH MASSAGE
REFLEXOLOGY
In reflexology, a practice originating in China, each part of the foot maps to a particular body part; working on the relevant part of the foot releases tension
in the associated body part.
The long, flowing strokes of this method not only feel good but also afford health benefits, such as stimulating blood flow and reducing inflammation.
THERAPEUTIC TOUCH
MANUAL THERAPIES
This contemporary interpretation of the ancient laying on of hands was developed by Dr. Dolores Krieger, professor of nursing at New York University in the 1970s.
Visceral Manipulation (VM) is an organ-specific fascial mobilization; Neural Manipulation (NM) releases nerve restrictions; and the New Manual Articular Approach (NMAA) integrates all aspects of a troubled joint. While these therapies emphasize precision and detail in gentle hands-on manipulation, they also work on structural and functional relationships among various systems in the body.
When I started with Mariko, I had a number of things that needed work. Over time, she has tackled them all. Her massages are somehow intense and yet with a fairly light touch. This is a combination I have never found before.
– David
The restorative quality of the work that Mariko does is remarkable. It is subtle, yet powerful and it is clear and directed in a gentle way so that your body absorbs it at a core level.
– Brenda
Mariko’s incredibly powerful fingers will go to work, relaxing the muscles and easing away pain. She usually saves the head as the last portion of the body to be set free of any acquired tensions. They just fly away off somewhere, and you arise from the massage table feeling bright, light and wonderful.
– Janet
I feel much lighter when I leave Mariko's Office.
